Museu de l'Art Prohibit

The collector and journalist Tatxo Benet devised the Museum of Forbidden Art after buying a work by the artist Santiago Sierra at ARCO2018 that shortly afterwards was censored by the same gallery that had sold it to him. Now this interesting museum is opening at the Casa Garriga Nogués in Barcelona and reveals a selection of works that were set aside or that have suffered censorship, cancellation or attacks of various kinds for social, political, religious, moral or cultural reasons. More than 200 paintings, sculptures, engravings, photographs, installations and audiovisual works by prestigious national and international artists such as Andy Warhol, Pablo Picasso, Francisco de Goya, Ai Weiwei, Banksy, Gustav Klimt, Tania Bruguera, Miquel Barceló, Keith Haring and Robert Mapplethorpe, among others.

The Museum of Forbidden Art thus offers visitors the opportunity to contemplate them again and to admire their ironic, reflexive, mordant, liberating, critical and empowering nature. The experience is complemented by digital tools that invite visitors to enter into the cases of censorship.
